Professor Suleiman Bogoro, was a lecturer with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) until he was first appointed as the Executive Secretary of TETFund in April 2014 and served until February 2016 when he was sacked by President Mohammed Buhari. He was subsequently reinstated in January 2019.

In the initial part of his first tenure as the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, his interest in research and development (R&D) led to the creation of the Department of Research and Development (R and D) at the TETFUND.

Professor Suleiman Bogoro is a leader on the pioneer Council of the Think Tank for Translating Research to Innovations, Strategies, Evidence for Policy and National Development created by the University of Ibadan Research Foundation.

He is among the Senior and accomplished leaders providing oversight as members of the Council for the National Think Tank for Translating Research to Innovations, Strategies, and Evidence for Policies in Nigeria.

Professor Suleiman Bogoro believes that research should not be undertaken for the sake of it. He is of the strongest belief that the era of research which gives certificates, bachelor’s, master’s and PhDs to students is already gone.

“We do research to address problems at the level of senior professors. But the emphasis should be on problem-solving research.  It is the problem-solving research that is synonymous with R&D, which is what I am emphasizing. They said I have done so commendably across Nigeria and in the minds of Nigerians.”

According to him, the right way for Nigeria to improve its rating and ranking of her universities is through research, which must be problem-solving.

Professor Suleiman Bogoro has been described as a silent achiever and one who has matched words with actions since he resumed the leadership of TETFUND. Since his assumption of office, there has been a significant turnaround in the fortunes and operations of TETFUND in the sense that transparency and accountability are the watchwords.

He has won multiple awards in the course of his research works and role as Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
