Very few communication scholars in Africa are grounded in strategic communication programme development as a specialized area of interest. One of them is Professor Akeem Mojisola Adeyanju.

Nigeria’s communication education landscape rarely has researchers in this area. Professor Sola Adeyanju has shown class as a top researcher in strategic communication development which is an essential field for all forms of development in Africa and beyond.

This is why he has worked as a consultant to many international organizations including UNDP, UNICEF, BBC World Service, and Westminster Foundation for Democracy. You might know a lot of Nigerian communication scholars in such popular, regular areas as advertising, public relations, broadcasting, journalism, and the likes. But you rarely hear of a communication researcher focusing on strategic communication.

Prof. Akeem Mojisola Adeyanju is a Nigerian scholar, lecturer, researcher, and consultant. His main focus is on strategic communication programme development, public policy analysis, research, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, advocacy and networking, and gender mainstreaming.

He has over 22 years of experience with many local, national, and international organizations on programmes and projects concerning media research, development of strategic communication documents, research on girl-child education, women and youth development, and child rights.

Prof. Adeyanju’s experience in the field of consultancy is quite intimidating. It shows how well sought-after he is in this specialized research area. He has worked both as a researcher, evaluator, editor, and consultant to organizations such as UNDP, UNICEF, BBC World Service, Action Aid Nigeria, Aid Foundation, Westminster Foundation for Democracy, and so on.

Prof. Adeyanju has an impressive educational pedigree. After successfully completing secondary education in 1982, he proceeded to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained a First Class Honours Degree in Mass Communication in 1998. He then got a Master’s degree in Political Science in 2001 and a PhD in Mass Communication from the University of Ibadan in 2010.

Prof. Adeyanju began his lecturing career in 1998 at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria where he was retained as a graduate assistant after bagging a First Class degree in Mass Communication. He has over 256 publications in local and international journals, an unbelievably intimidating collection which makes him an authority in the specialized field of strategic communication development.

Prof. Adeyanju was among the very few Nigerian scholars that played crucial roles in capacity training for the 2019 elections in Nigeria. This was achieved through his intellectual contributions as a team member in the European Union Support for Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) programme.

This project was packaged by the European Union in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy. Within the context of the 2016 to 2019 electoral cycle, the EU reaffirmed its priority to continue supporting the process of electoral and democratic reforms that would enhance the capacity of Nigeria’s national institutions to discharge their statutory duties in an efficient, unbiased, and non-partisan manner.
