ABU Zaria Honours foremost scientist Prof. D. A. Ameh, 4 others [PHOTOS]

A foremost scientist at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Danladi Amodu Ameh, and four other staff members of the Faculty, have been honoured for their immense contributions to the development of the Faculty.

Prof. Ameh, the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, who was Chairman, ABU Senate Standing Committee, was honoured on account of his valuable services to the Faculty by providing directions and guidance owing to his vast experience having been one of the oldest members of the Faculty.

The event took place at the University Assembly Hall on Friday, 15th December, 2023, with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, and other Management staff in attendance. The maiden edition of the Faculty’s eight-page newsletter was launched at the occasion.

Others honoured were Prof. Umar Alhaji Ismail, Department of Biochemistry; Dr. Abdulmalik Abdullahi Salman, Department of Biochemistry; Malam Mohammed Adamu Shittu, Department of Microbiology; and Malam Ibrahim Musa, Dean’s office.

Prof. Ismail was for many years Chairman, Examinations Regulations and Irregularities Committee (ERIC), for the Faculty who also never missed Faculty Board meetings. He was representing Faculty Professors at the Senate Standing Committee in addition to always being the first to be at the Faculty Board meeting.

Dr. Abdulmalik Abdullahi Salman is Exams Officer of the Department of Biochemistry who is always the first to submit results to the Faculty for board meetings. He is also noted to be very meticulous, reliable, and dependable.

Malam Mohammed Adamu Shittu has been in the Faculty Exams office for a while supporting the Exams Officer. As a Senior Technologist in the Department of Microbiology, he has contributed immensely to the Faculty in conducting exams.

And Malam Ibrahim Musa, one of the oldest staff members of the Deanery, is an experienced, dependable, and reliable staff, who taught a good number of academic staff most of the administrative procedures and ethics, especially when elected to serve the Deanery.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, who presented the awards, commended the Faculty, particularly the Dean, Prof. Maryam Aminu, for this singular initiative aimed at encouraging hard work and productivity among staff of the Faculty.

Prof. Bala, who equally commended the awardees for the “well-deserved recognition”, urged other faculties, institutes and centres across the University to emulate the Faculty in this direction.

The Vice-Chancellor used the occasion to launch the maiden edition of the Faculty’s newsletter, which highlights information about the Faculty’s fellows, scholars, research work publications, collaborations, MoUs, and promotions.

The newsletter, “Faculty of Life Sciences Newsletter December 2023”, also highlights various conferences, workshops, and symposia attended by the Faculty members as well as some of the academic events organised by the Faculty.

In her remarks at the well-attended event, the Dean of Life Sciences, Prof. Maryam Aminu, acknowledged with immense gratitude the collective efforts, dedication, and commitment that had defined their journey together.

Prof. Maryam, particularly, thanked the outstanding members of the Faculty for their hard work, passion for teaching and research, and unwavering support, which formed the bedrock for the success.

“A special mention goes to our diligent exams officers, who with meticulous attention to detail, ensured the smooth conduct of examinations and their presentation. Your behind-the-scenes efforts are often unseen but are undeniably vital in upholding the integrity of our academic processes.

“I also want to express my gratitude to the dedicated staff members who significantly contributed to the day-to-day operations of our Departments and Faculty. From administrative tasks to maintaining the facilities, your hard work has been instrumental to creating an environment conducive for learning and research”, she said.

Personalities and all other guests at the occasion were all treated to a sumptuous luncheon apparently to give thanks to Almighty God for a successful session, and for keeping them alive despite all the challenges.

Significantly, prayers were offered by both Muslims and Christians, in addition a toast to success for the Faculty and the entire University.
