Professor Buba Garegy Bajoga is a highly esteemed university administrator, a respected engineer and distinguished Abusite who was the second vice-chancellor, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi
Professor Buba Garegy Bajoga was born on February 11, 1944. He attended Government Colleges at Kaduna and Okene before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University where he obtained B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 1968. Thereafter, he took a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the State University of New York in 1972.
Prof. Banjoga returned to Ahmadu Bello University where he rose through the ranks and was appointed Professor in 1984. The same year 1984, under the rationalization program of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University was merged with the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and was renamed the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa College, Ahmadu Bello University, (ATBC-ABU) and he was appointed provost of the College.
He nursed Abubakar Tafawa Balewa College, back into the status of an autonomous University in 1984 and was appointed as vice-chancellor making him the 2nd vice-chancellor in the history of the university. He served as two-term Vice-Chancellor covering the period 1984-1994 during which, he also served as Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors.
At various times, he was a member of the Board of Directors of NITEL (1985); member, the Technical Sub-Committee on NITEL (1988) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) (1993).
Prof. Bajoga has served on the Council of COREN as well as on several Committees of NSE. He also served as the Managing Director of NITEL, and a Foundation Fellow of the Nigeria Academy of Sciences.
A couple of years ago, he received the prestigious Nigerian Universities Distinguished Professors Awards (NUDPA) from the National Universities Commission (NUC) alongside few outstanding colleagues.
The award was given to 17 professors who had recorded outstanding feats in the course of their careers and had toiled in the classroom, laboratory, and on the field seeking to add to knowledge in their areas of expertise.
He is recently served as the Chairman, Gombe State Tertiary Institutions Review Committee. And is presently the Chairman of the Board of National Mathematical Center.
