Prof Saad Ahmed: A Distinguished Professor of Pathology
Prof Saad Ahmed was born on 15th April 1972 in Malabu, Fufore Local government of Adamawa State, Nigeria. He attended command children’s School, Yola before proceeding to Yeluwa government secondary school, Yola for his secondary education.
He gained admission into the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1998.
He had his residency training in Pathology at ABU, Zaria, and became a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in June 2006. He was Lecturer I, ABU, Zaria (2006-2009), Senior Lecturer (2009-2012), Reader (2012-2015), and was conferred with Professorship in 2015.
Also at ABU and ABUTH, Zaria, he was Head of Department of Pathology (2014-2017), Assistant Dean Postgraduate, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences (2017-2018), Deputy Director, Directorate of academic planning and monitoring (2018-2019), and Director, University Health Services (June 2019 – February 2020).
Prof Saad Ahmed succeeded Dr. C. I Igwilo as the Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Abuja in February 2020 following an unprecedented competitive selection process.
Prof. Saad Aliyu Ahmed has won numerous awards and recognition from local and international bodies few of which are; Development in Nigeria Merit Award in the field of human medicine (July 2010), International WHO’S WHO of Professionals, Historical Society 2011, Appreciation Award, Honorable Minister of Science and Technology for the Successful Hosting and Serving as Member of Scientific Committee of the International Junior Science Olympiad 2010, Best Poster Presentation award at the Nigerian Medical Association Annual Delegate’s Meeting/Scientific Conference: Extragonadal Teratoma in Zaria. Abuja 2012, Award of Excellence, Overt Developmental Students’ of Nigeria 2016, The Most Distinguished Humanitarian Heart Award, Federal Medical Center Gusau 2016, Mentorship Award, Association of Resident Doctors in Nigeria Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Zaria, 2016, Excellence Award, District Head of Malabu, Adamawa State 2016, Talba of Malabu District Adamawa State 2016 and Global IMPACT Award from the Association of Molecular Pathology 2019.
He is a fellow of the International College of Surgeons and holds a PhD in Gynae-Pathology.
Prof Saad Ahmed is married and blessed with children. He is a Muslim and his hobbies are internet browsing and traveling.
