Saidu Musa Abdul – The Abusite Who Pays Fees for 100 ABU Students and Others

A distinguished Abusite and Member representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha Federal Constituency of Niger State, in the house of Representatives Hon. Saidu Musa Abdul has paid the fees of 100 indigent undergraduate students in various universities.

Abdul disclosed that the payments were made the respective institutions after verifying the status of the students to both fresh and returning students from the 34 wards in the constituency.

The beneficiaries include students of the Ibrahim Babangida University, Lapai with entry fees as much as N52,900 and Federal University of Technology, Minna which charges as much as N61,450.

Others are students of the Nigeria Army University, Biu which charges N49, 200 and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria where returning Pharmaceutical Sciences students paid N49, 716.

Similarly, the lawmaker has concluded arrangements to register 500 candidates from his constituency for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Who is Saidu Musa Abdul (SMA)

Hon. Saidu Musa Abdul (SMA) is a serving member of the house of Representatives. He graduated from the Department of Economics, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with a Second Class (Upper Division). He also has a Master Degree in Development Studies from Bayero University, Kano. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Economists.

Saidu has more than 10 years of professional experience from three (3) different sectors namely: Banking, Oil and Gas and presently Construction. His key competence is in Business Development, Relationship, and Personnel Management.

He has worked for Zenith Bank Plc where he became the Head of Marketing Unit of a branch, Oando Marketing Plc where he was a Sales manager in charge of 5 out of the 6 states in the North east and until recently, he was piloting the affairs of Gerawa Global Engineering Limited (arguably the biggest indigenous construction company in Northern Nigeria) as its Chief Operating Officer.

He has attended professional training programs on Leadership, Relationship Management, Negotiation Skills, Business Writing and Communication Skills anchored by some of the best training consultants in Nigeria. Saidu is a team player, self-motivated and Analytically-minded.

He has has always been involved in lots of community works, providing succor to the less privileged in terms of their educational and basic health care needs. He almost singlehandedly responsible for the incorporation of Wadata Development Forum; an association registered with the aim of ameliorating the development challenges of his immediate community.

He’s an advocate of participatory democracy. This he has done over the years through sensitization and education of his people on the need to get involved. Saidu stood with the opposition (now the ruling party) when it was most convenient for him to be with the then ruling party where his blood uncle was a Federal Minister. He has always been for the people.

Saidu has always maintained that material possession is not and shouldn’t be a measure of success but how many lives we can positively affect.

His legislative agenda include: Making UBEC work for all children irrespective of their status in the society, Deepening the scope of Universal Basic Education in order to ease accessibility and enhance enrollment by the gullible populace in the North in particular and the country as a whole (this should take off all children off the streets), Enhancing quality of education through collaboration with International Development Partners particularly UNESCO through its Education for all movement, the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), Sponsoring a bill on student loan to ease access to Tertiary Education.

Enhance enrollment of his constituents on NHIS through community based health insurance scheme. He would also draw the attention of the Federal Government to the inadequacy of basic primary health care facilities in his constituency, ensure facelift of existing primary and secondary facilities

Enhancing Agricultural Productivity/Maximizing Agricultural Value chain through collaboration with government agencies like NISRAL, BOI, BOA, NCRI e.t.c This will open up the economy of the Nupe land and directly provide employment to our people.

Saidu Musa Abdul is the first of the children of Justice Musa Abdul who retired on the 15th day of May, 2019 from the services of Niger State Judiciary as Justice of the High Court. He’s married with three kids.
