The Arewa socio-political organisation, under the aegis of the Coalition of Northern Groups, has waded into the face-off between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, saying strikes have affected the standard of education in Nigeria.

The organisation said the government should shift ground because children have been at home for a very long time.

The spokesperson of CNG, Abul-Azeez Suleiman, raised these concerns in an interview with our correspondent.

He said, “The government should be the first responder because the responsibility of ensuring the continuation of learning is, first and foremost, with the government. ASUU is a secondary responder; the government should shift ground midway with ASUU.

“Sometimes, it is necessary for both sides to shift grounds. Our children have been at home for a very long time. The prolonged face-off between the Federal Government and ASUU is having a huge toll on the future of the nation and the future of education in the country.

“We, therefore, hope that the Federal Government and ASUU will come to a middle course for the benefit of the country.
