UNIJOS Screens ABU Professor, 18 others For VC’s Position
The governing council of the University of Jos has shortlisted a prominent Professor from Ahmadu Bello Zaria (ABU) Zaria, Paul Mamza, FPIN, FICCON, FCSN for screening for the position of Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
The respected Professor of Polymer Science and Technology who doubles as the National President of the Polymer Institute of Nigeria was shortlisted alongside 18 other professors from various disciplines including one female.
All the 19 professors are jostling for the position of the vice-chancellor of the University of Jos following the expiration of the tenure of the former VC, Prof. Sabastian Seddi Maimako, in June this year.
Those shortlisted for the screening exercise which commenced yesterday will be screened by a committee for the plum job.
The Abusites gathered that others aspiring for the vice-chancellor position include Wonang David (UNIJOS), Bernard Matur (UNIJOS), Dimis Mailafia (UNIJOS) Wannang Noel (UNIJOS), Ashom Maisamari (UNIABUJA), Daniel Dabi (UNIJOS) Sylvester Shikyil (UNIJOS) and Yiltok Simon (UNIJOS).
Others are Uriah Alex Lar (UNIJOS), Isuwa Jurmang (Unijos), Tanko Ishaya (UNIJOS), Patricia Lar (UNIJOS), Pam Yakubu (UNIJOS), Adoyi Onoja (NSU, Keffi), Stephen Mallo (UNIJOS), Dung Pam Sha (UNIJOS) and Eugene A. (NSU, Keffi).
Prof. Patricia Lar is the only female candidate among the contestants. Lar, a Professor of Medical Microbiology in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Jos, is from Langtang North LGC of Plateau State.
Who is Prof. Paul Mamza?
Prof Paul Mamza, a Professor of Polymer Science and Technology in the Ahmadu Bello University’s Department of Chemistry holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry, an M.Sc, and Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Technology.
He is the current and First National President, Polymer Institute of Nigeria from the North. He was until this election in 2015, the Institute’s Vice President (operations) for the last four years.
Prof Mamza started his teaching career at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 1991 were to rise to become a professor in 2015.
