Trainees from Dangote Refinery undergoing training in ABU Zaria
Trainees from Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Company are currently undergoing training on petroleum refinery zeolite catalyst technology development at the Department of Chemical Engineering in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The training will eventually lead to the award of MSc and PhD in Chemical Engineering under the PTDF-Chair Laboratory at the University.
PTDF-Chair, Prof. Baba J. El-Yakubu, who made this known when he introduced the first batch of three trainees to the Management of Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria today, said the training followed a special request to the Department from Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Company.
Specifically, he said, the request was to train six members of their zeolite research team on petroleum refinery zeolite catalyst technology development with respect to the Company’s residue fluid catalytic cracking unit (rFCCU).
“This is an important development for both ABU and PTDF, as after the training the candidates will form a pioneering zeolite research team at the Company towards making Nigeria self-sufficient in the area of rFCCU catalyst production.
Receiving the trainees on behalf of the Management of the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabir Bala, expressed delight to have the trainees for the programme and promised to create an enabling environment which would foster a long-lasting relationship between the University and the Company.
The Vice-Chancellor, therefore, encouraged other Departments to emulate the PTDF-Chair in creating opportunities for research and development in the University.
In their remarks, the Dean of School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Sani A. Abdullahi, and his counterpart from Student Affairs Division, Prof. Muhammad Fatihu, pledged to do all they could to make the trainees’ research study hitch-free.
Speaking in the same vein, the Head of, Department of Chemical Engineering, Dr. J. A. Muhammad, promised to do the needful in resuscitating other research teams to enable the Department and the University to attract research partnership and possibly funding.
