The Facebook Road, By Abdurrashid Haruna

From my little assessment of the Facebook road after joining the platform for almost a decade now, I will say the road is long and continuous. One must be very careful in the journey as it’s associated with accidents and many times dangers our eyes wouldn’t see.

Respect, humility, and a careful examination of what you come across in this long journey will help you reach success. I have learned a lot from the good sides of this road and heed from the numerous lessons of the bad side too.

This platform has kept me abreast of the current happenings in my locality, school, university, and at large my country in various spheres of life.

I have met some good teachers and friends on Facebook, aside from the ones already known from my community, former schools, and university who are intellectually very good, inspirational, and knowledgable.

Their write-ups inspired me a lot and in some ways change my way of thinking and analyses of certain things.

You will agree with me that some people on the platform are blessed with knowledge and wisdom such that anytime they bring on a topic(s) your heart feels gladen because of the open-mindedness, in-depth analysis, and justice.

It is nice to be positive, communicate positive, and also be wary of what to share on your Facebook journey.

I always learn a lot from the good pages and profiles and usually pick updates from my erudite Islamic scholars that are emotional and spiritual, world scientific updates that are educating and amazing, advantageous scholarship websites which may lead to life-changing opportunity, and some other updates based on my comforting culture heritage.

Anytime I came across something on the FB street, I peruse through, wait some minutes and give a taught knowing well that bad or fake news spreads rapidly.

If it appears to be a piece of bad or fake news, I don’t always rush in disseminating it but rather make some thorough checks on it or quickly I visit the reputable national or international dailies for veracity.

Where it is confirmed true, I go on sharing but if appears unclear and in confusion, I always resist the distribution to save reputation.

Many on their Facebook journey cannot hide what is in their bags. They will rather bring it out because many other people already showcase theirs by the road. Oh! it is so nice to keep the private matter private and the public just public.

What about a friend request from the likes of president Muhammadu Buhari, my governor Nasiru El-rufai, or my amiable vice-chancellor, Professor Kabir Bala, and so on, I never accept it because I never for once believed the request truly came from them.

Sometimes the request comes from a woman (mostly beautiful) in uniform with luxurious cars behind claiming to be an agent for auctioning and whatever, it is all a fraud and not reality. They are scammers extremely hungry to milk you dry.

Summarily, another bad side of the road you need to get closely noticed as you move on with the Facebook journey is to try to not use the opportunity to insult or tarnish one’s image, never to believe strange people on solicitation messages, advertisement on Investment, shares, or marketing.

Scammers are there anyhow anywhere on the Facebook street to snatch away your happiness, and please don’t ever give them a chance. Save your reputation now and money so that on arrival you will come out almost clean to spend the coins judiciously.
