The ultimate success a leader can achieve is to leave a legacy and enact an indelible history not only for the people around but for the whole of the generation to come after. While all human beings have the chance to leave a good legacy and no amount is little to praise. When one’s actions inspire others, to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more then that person is more than just a leader.

A great leader doesn’t work to seek the applause of the people or the place as he seeks for the truth; he seeks the road to ascertain good developments and give them to his people. Good administrators are like clocks that always monitor the time of peoples’ affairs and remind them on the next thing to do.

Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje is one such leader that roused from the grass to grace. His selfless service as a lecturer at the famous Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria gave him many feathers to fly. He shared his wealth of knowledge and experiences lecturing at several institutions.

Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje was born at Bugaje, Katsina State. He had his early education in Katsina before proceeding to the famous Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained Bachelor’s Degree B.Eng. Hons in 1980 and MSc in 1988.

He received commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Award in the United Kingdom from 1990 to 1993 where he studied Energy Engineering at the University of Newcastle Upon-Tyne, for his PhD. Bugaje served the compulsory NYSC at the NNPC Refinery in Warri, and started his working career as a Trainee Process Engineer at Nigerian Paper Mill, Jebba, in 1981.

He later moved to academia in 1983 doing research and lecturing spanning over three decades at the Sokoto Energy Research Centre, Kaduna Polytechnic, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Maiduguri, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and the University of Johannesburg.

He also served as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (2000-2004) and was the Director-General, National Research Institute for Chemical Technology, Zaria (2011 to 2016). He is a registered Engineer with COREN and Fellow of the Solar Energy Society of Nigeria (SESN) and the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE).

Rector KadPoly

Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje was appointed as the Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic on 14th September 2017 for being a jack of all trades in academia and his past records of excellence. He was appointed to restructure, inject prudency in the giant polytechnic and restore the glory of the polytechnic as the rector said he met the institution in decaying condition.

On November 27, 2017 the Rector stated that he inherited over N600m liabilities and claims. He also explained that he inherited almost 50 court cases and the Rector after supervising the institution, complained about the conditions of the school offices and the students’ hostels.

Without doubt Kaduna Polytechnic is getting out of the mirage situation and is metamorphosing from its former direction. The Polytechnic is waxing expansion and stabilized from indiscriminate strikes that are dwarfing the prospect of the school. The institution is getting new touch of refurbishment and more courses are getting accreditations.

Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje, in his wealth of prowess, diversified means for other non-lucrative departments and subsidiary agencies of the institution to be relevant and become revenue-generating resources. The Kadpoly Consult is now expected to remit N5 million from the fish pound and block industry initiated under the leadership of professor Bugaje.

The Mass Communication department has relocated to Tudun Wada/Unguwar Sanusi main campus for the Spider Radio, a campus radio station to broadcast even beyond the college and the institution is underway of being a manufacturer of solar tricycle vehicles with the mission to span into modern science and technology of productions.

Prof. Bugaje as the Kaduna Polytechnic rector has repositioned the renowned institution to its global educational standards. His versatile academia experiences averted the recurrent strikes of the polytechnic and stands for all the benefits of his staff.

The rector in his effort to protect students from victimization of any sort promised to let the law work judiciously on any staff that is involved in any act of misconduct. In a parley with the students of the Polytechnic, he promised to leave no stone unturned as he retorted, there is no untouchable by the law.

To keep to his words he begged the students to report any spate of adultery and corrupt practices by staff of the institution and get reward. He initiated a whistle blowers programme to fish out any offender of the law.

Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje has kept to his words of rekindling the good image of the institution and his administrative mechanisms remain the wheels that always trail him to achieve his successes in his careers.
