Professor Ibrahim Hussaini Doko: DG, Raw Materials Research and Development Council, RMRDC

Professor Ibrahim Hussaini Doko is a distinguished Abusite, former University lecturer and the current Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, RMRDC.

Professor Ibrahim Hussaini Doko who hails from Doko, Lavum Local Government Area of Niger state was born on the 24th of September, 1962. He began his educational pursuits at the North Primary School, Doko (1968-1974), obtained the West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) with an outstanding performance from the Government Secondary School, Kotangora (1974-1979).

He proceeded to the School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU), Zaria for his higher academic pursuits where he did his ‘A’ levels (IJMB) before he was enrolled into the full degree program of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to study Textile Science and Technology in 1980 obtaining his first degree in 1984 with an outstanding performance.

His performance won him the Oba of Benin prize for Best Final year Student of the Department of Textile Science and Technology, ABU, Zaria for that year. As a result of his academic performance, he was offered immediate employment as a Graduate Assistant at the Ahmadu Bello University after his completion of the mandatory one year National Youth Service (NYSC) program.

Professor Ibrahim Hussaini Doko, upon his employment at the Ahmadu Bello University, immediately started his Master’s program. The nature of his chosen area of study and the absence of Specialists in the area compelled him to undertake part of the research requirements in the UK at the prestigious Leeds University.

He equally enrolled for and completed his Doctorate programme in 1993 from the same University.

He began his public career as a Graduate assistant with Ahmadu Bello University in 1985 and rose to the post of Lecturer 1 in the same University before he joined the Raw Materials Research and Development Council in 1994 as an Assistant Scientific Officer.

True to his hardworking nature and commitment to the organization, he rose through the ranks to become a Chief Scientific Officer/ Head of Division in 1996 and was thereafter promoted to the rank of Deputy Director in-charge of research, Evaluation, and Monitoring.

In October 2002, following a series of written examinations and by the special grace of God, he emerged the Director of the Industrial Chemicals and Minerals Department (ICMD), RMRDC. Professor Ibrahim was appointed as DG RMRDC in 2014 for the first term.

In the course of his public career in the University, in the Council and at Inter-ministerial levels, professor Hussaini Doko Ibrahim, has served in several committees.

Some of these include: member, departmental Committee for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes; Junior and Senior Staff Disciplinary Committees; Technical and editorial Committees of some of RMRDC’s publications; National Consultative Committee on the Industrialization of Scientific Research results (NCCISRR), Federal Ministry of Science an d Technology; National Committee on Deletion Programme for Industrial Raw Materials among several others.

Professor Hussaini Doko Ibrahim has traveled widely in the course of his official assignments to several countries of the world.

He is a member of several professional bodies such as Chartered Textile Technologists of Textile Institute C. TEXT (A.T.I), United Kingdom; Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC); Chartered Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM); Fellow, Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (FICCON) just to mention a few.

Professor Hussaini Doko Ibrahim’s experience in life, both personally and professionally are inexhaustible. Suffice it to say, these varied and rich experiences have prepared him for the important role of Director-General of the nation’s leading organization on raw materials development and exploitation, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, RMRDC.

Professor Hussaini Doko Ibrahim was among other eminent Nigerians who received the National Productivity Order of Merit Award in 2019.

Professor Ibrahim Hussaini Doko’s re-appointment

The Governing Board of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) re-appointed Prof. Ibrahim Hussaini Doko as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the RMRDC for a second term in office with effect from 8th of April, 2019.

The Board Chairman, Honourable Abdullahi Waziri Tambuwal stated that the reappointment of the DG was based on his credible performance and administrative prowess which has taken the Council to enviable heights.

For Prof. Ibrahim, this is another opportunity to intensify efforts towards moving the Council to the next level. According to him, “his administration will successfully actualize the Council’s strategic plans (2018-2021) which aim to boost the development and utilisation of secondary raw materials as industrial input with a view to promoting manufacturing capabilities of Nigeria’s industries.
