Adamu Abu Kasim: vice-chancellor of IBB University, Lapai
Adamu Abu Kasim is a full-blooded Abusite, accomplished Nigerian botanist, and professor of science. He is was appointed vice-chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai by Abubakar Sani Bello and assumed office in December 2019.
Professor Abu Kasimu Adamu was born in Dukku of Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State where he hails from.
He received his early education at Central Primary School, Dukku, and graduated in 1980, had his Secondary education at Government Science College, Kagara (1985), after which he enrolled into the School of Basic Studies of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (I.J.M.B).
He proceeded to the same famous Ivory Tower to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Botany, Second Class Upper Division (B.Sc. Botany, 1989).
Not yet fulfilled with his dream to become an accomplished scholar, Professor Adamu continued his pursuits for additional qualifications and obtained M.Sc Botany and Ph.D., crop breeding in the same Institution from 1993 – 2001 respectively.
Within the period, the astute scholar went to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka for a Certificate in Tissue Biotechnology in 1995.
He served as a lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where served as Head of Department and Dean, Faculty of Sciences. He also served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, a position he occupied until his appointment.
Prof Adamu Abu Kasim is a member of several professional bodies such as the Botanical Society of Nigeria, Genetic Society of Nigeria, National Association of Nuclear Scientist and Science Teachers Association of Nigeria among others.
