Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu is a distinguished Abusite, respected academic, Educational Administrator, and renowned professor of Veterinary Reproduction.

He served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola, Nigeria (from 2004 to 2009), and also served as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State (from 2013-2018). He is currently a Visiting Professor at the National Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja.

Abdullahi was born on September 2, 1960, and had his primary and secondary education in Song and Mubi, respectively, in Adamawa State. He went to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, where he studied Veterinary Medicine.

In 1984, he performed the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Ilorin, Kwara State. He returned to Ahmadu Bello University to study for his master’s degree in Veterinary reproduction (Theriogenology) between 1986–1988.

In 1990, he was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to study at the University of Liverpool, where he had his Ph.D. in 1994. He was also awarded a Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship for a Postdoctoral Study at Rakuno Gakuen University, Ebetsu, Hokkaido, Japan from 1997 to 1999.

Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu worked as a lecturer at the University of Maiduguri from 1985 and served the University in several capacities until he was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola in 2004 where he served until 2009. He also served as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State (from 2013-2018).

His achievements as pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University (SLU) Kafin Hausa, includes setting the foundation for the new university, recruitment, and training of staff, the construction of the Permanent Senate Building, the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge, lecture halls, etc.

It was also under his watch that the Jigawa State Government had, during its executive council meeting held on Wednesday 12th July, 2017, approved the contracts for additional works in Lots II and III at the University.

Projects under Lot II consisted of the Perimeter Fencing of the University; University Gate and GateHouse; University Shopping Complex; University Clinic; fifteen Junior Staff Quarters; five Intermediate Staff Quarters; Faculty Offices and Temporary Senate Building.

The projects under Lot III included three Student Hostel Blocks, one Sabbatical Lodge, five Principal Officers Quarters, Road Networks, Drainages, and Parking Spaces.

Prof Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu is the secretary-general of, Association of West African Universities. A position he assumed during his time as vice-chancellor, Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State.

Abdullahi had a Commonwealth Scholarship for a Ph.D. degree at the University of Liverpool and also a Japanese post-doctorate fellowship that was sponsored by the Japan Society for the promotion of science. He was the first Nigerian to benefit from that programme.
