ABU Student, Balogun Sofiyullahi Bags Hall Of Fame Outstanding Law Students In Nigeria
Balogun Sofiyullahi, a Law Student of Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria has been recognized in the top 10 rank of outstanding Law Students in Nigeria.
This is pursuant to the “LAW STUDENTS HALL OF FAME” recognition by the Legal Torch Initiative in its premiere edition of Legal Torch Digest of 2020, celebrating ten outstanding Law Students in the Federation.
Listed as the outstanding students are Balogun Sofiyullahi, Emmanuel Nwobodo, Umoh Edet, Babatunde Lawal, Kate Johnson, Zainab Shittu, Victor Okoli, Vanessa Kelechi, Maryam Hassan and Ajoke Bello Ganiyat.
Who Is Balogun Sofiyullahi ?
Balogun Sofiyullahi is a 500 Level Law Student in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and holds the coveted honour of OFFICER OF THE ORDER OF LAWSAN(OOL).
He is a member of International Bar Association, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Young Institute for Transnational Arbitration, Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG), International Council for Commercial Arbitration, Young Practitioners’ Group, Asian International Arbitration Centre, Young Arbitration Group, Trainee Prime Dispute & Resolution Institute.
Balogun is a former Justice of Court of Appeal, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and has left an indelible imprint as a Student Judge and because of his renowned quest for excellence, he has been invited and has presided over Court sessions in several Universities including, Bayero University, Kano, (2nd August, 2019), Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto (29th August, 2019) and University of Ilorin (18th December, 2019)
Others include Nnamdi Azikwe University (UNIZIK): Probity Chambers Moot Court Competition, UNIZIK (26th October, 2020) and Justice Kingsley Nwafor Moot Court Competition, Equity Chambers, UNIZIK (29th August, 2020).
More so, he has an awaiting invitation from Lagos State University, and Yobe State University.
Besides, Balogun had served as a Presiding Judge in various virtual Moot Competitions which include the National Maze Online Moot Competition: Excel in Law.
Besides, Balogun had also served as a Judge in : Bayo Akinlade National Essay Competition and 2020 LAWSAN South West Debate Competition (29th May, 2020).
Balogun has also been featured as the EBSU Bar Personality of the week of Ebonyi State University on 17th April, 2020 and Law Student Personality of the Month by Legal Torch Initiative of Osun State University (1st May, 2020).
Balogun was one of the instructors at the Terbanus Castra Online Moot Training of the joint Moot Society Forces of UNILORIN, OAU, UNIBADAN, UNILAG & LASU.
He has led teams that represented Ahmadu Bello University and won several inter-Universities Moot Court Competitions, prior to being elevated to the bench, as a Justice of Court of Appeal, ABU Zaria.
These competitions include ones with University of Ilorin (twice in 2018) & Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto amongst others.
Balogun has held diverse leadership positions till today which include: Chairman, Directorate of Law Students Journal of Law; Dean of Studies, The Legal Issues; Clinic Head of the ABU Law Clinic; Chairman, Forum of Committee Heads, ABU Law Clinic; National Director, LAWSAN Correctional Service Project; Chairman, Advisory Committee, National Association of Kwara State Students, ABU Zaria etc.
He also served as Vice Chairman, National Moot Society, Student Editor, Legal Pages, Legal Adviser, National Association of Kwara State Law Students, ABU Zaria (2020 till date), Member, National LAWSAN Editorial Board, (2020 ), Member, National LAWSAN Monitoring Board, (2020), Membership Officer I, Zero Tolerance for Corruption Club ZTCC, ABU Zaria (2019 till date), Treasurer, Interfaith Network Against Corruption INAC, (2019 till date); Director of Research, International Humanitarian Law Students, ABU Zaria 2019 till date; Director of Research, Liberty Chambers, ABU Zaria (2018); A.Attorney General, Students Human Rights Club, ABU Zaria (2016) etc.
Balogun had earlier won a National Essay Competition in 2020 beating students from several Universities in Nigeria. He hones his research skills greatly that he had written and published over 25 articles on diverse areas of law and particularly, on contemporary legal issues.
No doubt, he is a good and worthy ambassador of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
