Othman Abdulrasheed, a young ABU Alumnus was recently named among the 2022 official members of the Forbes Coaches Council. Abdulrasheed who is the first to have attained such a feat in northern Nigeria, is a business leadership coach and trainer, a keynote speaker, and an author. He is a Chemical Engineering graduate of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He also has MBA (Marketing) from the Dangote Business School, Bayero University, Kano. Abdulrasheed speaks more about the feat in this interview.

How it feel to be inducted into the prestigious Forbes Coaches Council?

To be honest it still feels surreal. This is a group that consists of some really high profile coaches in the industry like Lanre Olusola – who can be termed the father of the coaching industry in Nigeria, and former presidential candidate Fela Durotoye. So to be in the same council as them is truly an honour and privilege that I do not take for granted and I look forward to learning from the A-List coaches in the council, contributing my own quota to the discussion, and ultimately using the new resources and tools I would be exposed to, to help my current and future clients grow their businesses in sha Allah.

You made history by becoming the first from northern Nigeria, does that make it more special?

The Forbes Coaches Council is an invitation-only community for leading business and career coaches. Being the first member of the council from Northern Nigeria not only makes it extra special but also comes with a huge responsibility as I feel like an ambassador. I intend to work extra hard to portray the North in a positive light and use the tools and resources at my disposal now to help business owners in my community and at large.

What he did to get to this level?

It hasn’t been an easy task, but like everything worthwhile in life, the view at the top of the mountain is worth the uphill climb. Here in the North, the coaching industry is not as well established as in other parts of the world, we coaches here have to work extra hard to show our value and slowly change the mindset of the populace to start to embrace this form of intervention and personal development.

Next target for him!

I have never been one to rest on my laurels. I will keep developing myself and taking on new and bigger challenges. More importantly, I will work extra hard to ensure that my clients get the business transformation they come to me for.

Advice to upcoming coaches.

For upcoming coaches, I would say dream big even though you are starting small. With hard work and dedication, there is nothing you cannot achieve. It is important to seek out mentors to support you on your path. To summarize it using one of my favorite sayings, “FOLLOW WHO KNOW ROAD”.
