Kaduna State Scholarship Payment Update: Full List of Students With BVN Issues

The management of the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board have been following the narrative on social media about lots of students receiving approval text messages from the Board who have not yet been paid.

This is true, but simply not the fault of the Board. It is simply the fault of the students themselves and here is why.

We have 69 scholars in 2017/2018 and 474 scholars in 2018/2019 totaling 543 scholars who have been cleared by their schools but cannot be paid by the Board’s software because details submitted by them in our database are different from the data submitted to the BVN database.

The Board is treating these cases as false identities. Ordinarily, it should lead to automatic disqualification. Over N59 million is hanging unpaid despite that the funds are available.

The Board is using this opportunity to warn current applicants for 2019/2020 to ensure they rectify the discrepancies between their information with that of the BVN data.

We are also writing reminder letters and making phone calls so that the schools can verify the 2018/2019 1446 and the 2017/2018 284 unverified students.

For students whose names were removed from the 2017/2018 batch B list on account of been paid in the batch A list; investigations are still ongoing. The matter is currently before the office of the Auditor General of the state. We are following up.

The Board is frustrated that it cannot pay scholars as much as it wants to and has sent text messages to the phone numbers supplied by the students so they can come forward to rectify the BVN issue. Some students did not put their phone numbers and some gave wrong numbers.

Most of the students with BVN issues have the wrong date of births. Can one person have more than one date of birth? If the Board does not take these meticulous steps and end up paying the wrong beneficiaries, students will accuse the Board of corruption.

Most of the students accusing the Board wrongly are amongst the people frustrating the Board’s efforts to pay. The management has decided to publish their names. They should submit the following:

1. A Birth and indigene certificate (both must be submitted together) or if they don’t have both, they can submit
2. Either an International passport or voters card or drivers license

These documents must have the date of birth similar to the one on their BVN data. If you submit the wrong data once more; the Board will cancel your application and you will lose your bursary. You must also submit

1. Your admission letter
2. A copy of your school ID and
3. Your SID number
