With the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results released by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), prospective students will be curious to know the JAMB Cut Off Marks for the institution of their choice.

The ABUSITES reports that getting 180 or 200 as your UTME score should be enough to get you into any school of your choice.

JAMB Cut Off Marks For All Universities, Polytechnics

In August 2021, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB canceled the use of general cut-off marks given by JAMB in all higher institutions in Nigeria. This means the schools will have to choose their own cut-off marks for admission.

If haven’t checked your JAMB result for 2022, use this link to do so.

How ABU Zaria Admission Process Works.

For those who selected Ahmadu Bello University as your preferred institution, please note that JAMB SCORE alone can not guarantee your admission into this prestigious citadel of learning. It’s important to understand the process & how it works!

There are some unique facts about ABU Zaria and one of such is the ABU admission process. Admissions are conducted at the departmental level based on states and each Departmental admission guideline clearly spells out three criteria and is religiously adhered to which includes:

  • Merit list 45% of the total students admitted to the department. At least 2 to 3 students with the highest score from each state.
  • Catchment area list 35%. Like any other university in Nigeria, ABU considers students from its selected States as its catchment area.
  • Less Educationally developed states list 20%. In other to give candidates in some selected states that are not as educationally developed as the others a chance to be in ABU as they are at a disadvantage and cannot stand their colleagues from the opposite side.

Let’s try to explain! After UTME AND POST UTME examinations, a list of all candidates is arranged based on per state based on scores starting from the highest to the lowest. The first 3 or 4 depending on the department have automatic slots based on merit. This means that your success in the admission process is based on the performance of candidates from your state of origin.

You can score 250 and not secure an admission in a department while another candidate with 200 can. This is because the candidate with 250 may be the 10th highest from his state in that department thereby not qualifying to be on the merit list while the individual with 200 may be the 2nd highest from his state in the department and fit to be on the merit list.
