HUAWEI ICT COMPETITION 2018-19 NATIONAL AWARD: SEE HOW ABU ZARIA GENIUS SWEEP ALL AWARDS

The Huawei ICT Competition 2018-19 National Award Ceremony and the launch of the 2019-20 Competition took place on Thursday 4th July 2019 at the Ladi Kwali Conference Centre, Sheraton Hotels, Abuja.

It was organized by Huawei Nigeria to honour outstanding performances by students, instructors and academies for the 2018-19 season and to formally launch the 2019-20 competition.

ABU Zaria won the “Best Academy” award, Engr. Bashir H. Sani won the “Best Instructor” award, the six (6) students that represented Nigeria and won the Regional Finals in South Africa and came third at the Global Finals in China were awarded the “Best Students” award and Aliyu Muktar also received the national “Outstanding Performance” award.

Dignitaries at the event included the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Zhou Pingjian, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Communications, Mr Musa Istifanus (represented by the Director of ICT in the Ministry), the Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.

Also, the Managing Director, Huawei Nigeria Enterprise Business Group, Mr. Tank Li, the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Rasheed Abubakar (represented by Mr. Chris Maiyaki, Director, Office of the ES), the Vice Chancellor, ABU Zaria (represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. S. Z. Abubakar, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Bala Abdullahi, the Vice President (Academic Affairs), American University of Nigeria, Prof. Muhammadou M. O. Kah and a host of others from the academia (Professors, Instructors and students), Huawei, NITDA, etc.

The Vice Chancellor in his keynote speech, delivered by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. S. Z. Abubakar, acknowledged the tremendous support the University received from Huawei since the inception of the Huawei Authorized Information Network Academy (HAINA) leading to the ICT competition Global Final in China. He added “The HAINA program is a win-win situation for us all as it, virtually, is at no-cost to the University but rather with incentives from Huawei.

It also provides value-added IT skills acquisition platforms as well as allowing Huawei to promote its certifications and technologies while providing the students with the requisite skills relevant to the needs of the 21st century ICT workplace. While greatly appreciating this partnership, we also look forward to other more critical interventions from Huawei in terms of infrastructure and staff development”.

The Vice Chancellor also congratulated the six ABU students (Mohammed Mustapha Maihaja (400L Computer Engineering), Danladi Fahad (500L Computer Engineering), Abdulqadir Babagana Musa (500L Electrical Engineering), Shuaibu Usman Abbas (400L Computer Science Education), Kamaludeen Umar (500L Electrical Engineering) and Abdulqudus Temidayo (400L Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering) and noted that “I wish to congratulate you as this is a reward for hardwork and commitment and a challenge to do even more.

All of us can be winners if we can dedicate ourselves to do just a little bit more. You must be ready to explore the immense possibilities that lie ahead of you as future IT movers and shakers of our contry in particular and the world in general”.

Another highlight of the event was the formal launch of the 2019-20 Huawei ICT Competition by the DG, NITDA, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami assisted by the Permanent Secretary, Fedeal Ninistry of Communications, Managing Director Huawei EBG, Executive Secretary, NUC.
