FG TO SET UP TECHNICAL COMMITTEE ON STUDENT POPULATION AND ENROLLMENT
The Federal Ministry of Education and the Indices and Disbursement Committee of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, (RMAFC) have agreed to set up a technical committee on accurate and reliable data on student population and enrollment in the country.
According to a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations Department of the FMoE, Ben Bem Goong, the essence of the technical committee is to aid the Indices and Disbursement Committee of the RMAFC in its duties and functions.
This decision was made today in Abuja when the Indices and Disbursement Committee, led by its Chairman, Dr. Chris Akomas, paid a working visit on the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu.

The Minister said that the resolve to constitute the technical committee is necessitated by the need for sustainable data processing to curtail falsification. Adamu Adamu subsequently pledged his willingness to ensure that the Committee gets all the data it needs to perform its functions more efficiently.
Speaking earlier. Dr. Chris Akomas, Chairman of the Indices and Disbursement Committee said his Committee desires a strategic partnership with the Ministry on developing and sustaining a reliable databank.
He stressed that this partnership is part of the Committee’s resolve to develop a cordial working relationship with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, (MDAS) from which it will need critical data.
He said the partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education is important as it is the best source for accurate and updated data on student enrolment and population in primary, secondary, and technical schools at the local government and state levels.
Akomas said using such data will lend more credibility to the Commission.
The Committee Chairman subsequently requested that the technical committee be constituted of personnel who work with public schools.
In her remarks, Director, Basic and Secondary Education Department, Mrs. Binta Bello assured the Committee that the Ministry is equipped with the most accurate data on student population and enrollment.
