Meet Fatima Waziri-Azi: New Director General of NAPTIP
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday approved the appointment of an Abusite, Fatima Waziri-Azi as the director-general of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
Waziri-Azi takes over from Basheer Mohammed, the former NAPTIP DG.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, senior special assistant on media and publicity to the president on Wednesday.

Another distinguished Abusite and current minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development, Sadiya Farouq was said to have recommended Waziri-Azi for the appointment.
Waziri-Azi’s recommendation is said to be based on her “pedigree, vast experience and proven track record to drive the agency forward and consolidate on what has been achieved so far”.

Fatima Waziri-Azi got her first degree in law from the prestigious Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 2001.
She was a Senior Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muham madu Buhari on Rule of Law Since August 2019 before her new appointment.
She was Rule of Law Advisor to the President in the Office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from Nov 2018.
The distinguished abusite is well grounded in her field and has acquired several certifications. These include a Bachelors of Law, Masters in Law and Doctorate in Law.
She is also an Associate Member, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK (ACIrb); Member, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA); Member, New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA); Member, Association of Women in Development (AWID); Member, Women in International Security (WIIS).
Mrs Fatima is an Associate Professor & Former Head of Department of public law at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.
Dr Fatima Waziri-Azi has vast working experience both in Nigeria and abroad.
She is an expert in rule of law and an advocate against domestic and sexual-based violence, plus Research and Training.
She is an alumnus of Havard, University of Pitsburgh and many other world-class institutions.
