ABU Alumnus Appointed New DG of National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW).

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of an ABU Alumnus Dr. Yusuf Maina Bukar as the Director General of National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW).

This was contained in a statement signed by the Director (Press) in the Federal Ministry of Environment, Mr. Saghir El-Mohammed.

The appointment which is for a four year term, takes effect from April 4, 2022. Maina-Bukar is a lecturer at the department of geography in Yobe State University.

He is a Ph.D holder in The Impact of the Emerging Climate Change Risks on Sustainable Urban Growth from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, Master of Science Degree in Advanced Sustainability of the Built Environmentfrom the University of Dundee, UK and Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria.

Dr. Yusuf also has expertise in Climate Change Adaption and Sustainable Development. He is a member of the Environmental Society.

The National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) which is under the ministry of environment, was established in 2015 by an act of parliament.

It is related to the Great Green Wall initiative in Africa, which was conceived in 2007 by the African Union to address land degradation, boost food security and support communities to adapt to climate change in sub-Saharan Africa.
