CoE Hong Matriculates 350 Students for ABU Degrees

The College of Education Hong (COE), in Adamawa State, (An affiliate of Ahmadu Bello University) has matriculated 350 students to read various degree programs in the institution.

The matriculating students took an oath to abide by the laws and statutes of ABU Zaria: “I solemnly undertake and swear to observe and respect the provisions of Ahmadu Bello University Laws and statutes, ordinances and regulations, lawfully made thereunder which are now in force and which shall from time to time be brought into force.”

The provost Prof Johnson Pongiri at the event in Hong, confirms stringent measures to prevent students’ involvement in cult activities in the college.

He further stated that “The college intends to add six more courses in 2020/2021 academic session to include mathematic, chemistry, physic, integrated science, Arabic, physical and health education.

The provost listed inadequate staffing, làck of good road networks, ICT facilities, transportation, and hostels, as some of the challenges in the institution.

Prof Johnson Pongiri hopes that the good image of the institution will be sustained through synergy, and warned the newly admitted students to strictly adhere to rules and regulations governing examinations and good conduct.

The College would not tolerate any unlawful demonstrations, protests, or mass action” He warned.

The provost lauded government and the ABU Zaria for finding the College worthy of affiliation as well as TETfund, Staff, and students of the College for their support and cooperation.

Prof. Pongri however, enumerated some challenges faced by the Degree program to include inadequate staffing with Doctorate degrees, landscaping, laboratories, road network, e-library, ICT facilities and books, hostels and buses for transportation. 

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria Prof. D.A Ameh reminded the students that their purpose of being in the University is to acquire knowledge and skill to prepare them for a useful life and become a good citizen.

Recall that the Adamawa state college of Education Hong became an affiliate of ABU Zaria a few years ago under Prof Johnson Pongri who is pivotal in making the college a degree-awarding institution. The first set of 449 students Matriculated in 2018 to pursue degree courses in four faculties; Agricultural Science, Biology, Social Studies, and CRS.
