ABU Student, Balogun Sofiyullahi Wins Nat’l Essay Competition With 92% Score

An ABU Zaria student Balogun Sofiyullahi has won a national essay competition with a record score of 92%.

Balogun Sofiyullahi who is a 500 Level Student in the faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, emerged victorious after beating 125 other participants from 15 Universities across Nigeria.

The essay competition with the theme: “Police Brutality as a Threat To Nigerian Democracy”, was organized by the National Association of Edo State Law Students in conjunction with the African Youth Parliament.

Reacting to the great Achievement, Sofiyullahi said, “I received with joy, the news that I won the National Essay Competition with 92% highest score, amongst the 10 lucky winners.

“I am glad and grateful to the National Association of Edo State Law Students and the African Youth Parliament for giving me the platform” he Concluded.

Who is Balogun Sofiyullahi?

Balogun Sofiyullahi is an exceptional student. He has a great penchant for research, knowledge, writing & oratory.

He was a former Justice of Court of Appeal, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and currently, he is the: Clinic Head of the ABU Law Clinic; National Director, LAWSAN Correctional Service Project and Vice Chairman, National Moot Society

Because of his track record of excellence on the bench as a Student Judge, he has been invited and has presided over Court proceedings in other Universities including Bayero University, Kano, (2nd August, 2019); Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto (29th August, 2019) and University of Ilorin (18th December, 2019)

More so, he has an awaiting invitation from other schools like Yobe State University, Damaturu, Yobe State.

Balogun Sofiyullahi has recorded numerous Mock & Moot Court appearances as a Counsel, before the different caliber of Judges & Justices, within and outside Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Importantly, he has led teams that represented Ahmadu Bello University and won several inter-Universities Moot Court Competitions, prior to being elevated to the bench, as a Justice of Court of Appeal, ABU Zaria.

Significantly, while he was a Counsel, Balogun Sofiyullahi recorded numerous achievements, which earned him several awards. They include: The Best Oralist at the 2018 Faculty of Law Annual inter Chambers Moot Court Competition, ABU Zaria.

The Best Oralist at the 2018 Inter Universities Moot Court Competition organized by the Judicial Council, National NAKSS held in Kwara State High Court and The Best Oralist at the 2016 Joint Inter Chambers Moot Court Competition between Liberty Chambers and Realist Chambers amongst others.

Balogun Sofiyullahi who has held diverse leadership positions is currently a Member of the National LAWSAN Editorial Board, (2020 till date) as well as Member, National LAWSAN Monitoring Board, (2020 till date)

The young law student has written and published over 20 Articles on diverse areas of law and particularly, on contemporary legal issues.
