Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda is a skillful diplomatic, public servant, politician and distinguished Abusite who is the current Nigerian Ambassador to the people’s republic if China

Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda was born on 1st October 1951 in Marte Local Government of Borno State of Nigeria. He began his education at Elementary School 1, Marte from 1957 – 1960. And from 1961 – 1964 he attended Senior Primary School, Maiduguri and proceeded to Government College, Maiduguri for his H.S.C. (Higher School Certificate) from 1970 – 1971. He went to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1957 and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.

Between 1980 – 1982, Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda attended Post-Graduate Advanced Diploma in Administration and Master’s Degree in Development Economics from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom.

Immediately after graduation in 1975, Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda joined the Borno State Civil Service as Administrative Officer VII and rose from the post of Assistant-Secretary through to Senior Assistant-Secretary, Principal Assistant-Secretary, Under-Secretary, Ministerial Secretary to Permanent Secretary.

By the year 1988 after variously serving as General Manager of Radio and Television and Chairman of Manguno Local Government, Ambassador Jidda was elected member of The Nigerian Constitutional Assembly in Abuja. On completion of his assignment in the Assembly, Ambassador Jidda transferred his service from Borno State to the Federal Civil Service of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, at the Federal Civil Service, Ambassador Jidda served variously as Director of Finance, Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals, Director of Finance in the Presidency, Director of the National Identity Card Project and Director of National Border Patrol amongst numerous other ad-hoc assignments.

In 1997, Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda was appointed Secretary to the State Government and Head of Civil Service of Borno State on secondment. Two years later, Ambassador Jidda voluntarily retired from both State and Federal Civil Service to join politics whence he contested as Governorship Candidate of People’s Democratic Party in 1999 in Borno State.

After the elections, Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda was appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Burkina-Faso in the year 2000. After serving as an Ambassador he was again appointed as Special Adviser to the President on National Emergency and worked in the State-House.

By the year 2005, he served as a member of the National Political Reform Conference and later appointed again as Secretary to The State Government of Borno State where he served for 10 years making him the longest-serving Secretary to the State Government in Nigeria. Ambassador Jidda voluntarily resigned as Secretary to State Government in the year 2015.

In 2017, Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda was again appointed as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the People’s Republic of China where he is currently the Head of Mission .

A highly experienced administrator, a diplomat and a politician of repute, Ambassador Jidda is a member of Board of Trustees of the ruling party the APC in Nigeria. He is a contented family man who travelled wide in the globe and enjoys playing golf, reading books and engaging in political and diplomatic activities.

Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda was also the Chairman of Monguno (Monguno + Marte ) local government area of Borno state-Nigeria in the year 1997 and was succeeded by Alhaji Bashir Dungus.

His Excellency also served in Muhammad Goni’s Government as Senior Assistant Secretary and rose to Under Secretary in the Governor’s office.

So even when serving in Goni’s administration he had the experience of working in a multicultural environment, because he worked alongside a Yoruba SSG from Kwara Mr. Michael Olowolaiyemo.

The Chief Judge then was an Ibo man Justice Kalu Anya and the Attorney General was another Yoruba man Bar Sanya Olu. Because the newly created Borno state then didn’t have the requisite qualified indigenes to occupy those strategic positions until much later.

  • Awarded Letter of Commendation as Secretary of the Committee on the Rehabilitation of Federal Low Cost Houses, Borno  State for Being the Best Committee In Nigeria by an Assessment of National Council of Works.
  • Awarded a Trophy as General Manager of Borno Radio Television Corporation, which came second in the 1985 Nigeria Festival; for Television Programme NIFETEP 1985.
  • Architects Colloquium Award of Honour plague for special support of 2008 Architects Colloquium.
  • Awarded Letter of Commendation as the Best Amir-ul-Hajj 2008 By Borno State Government.
  • Award of Excellence plague as a Distinguished Seasoned Administrator in Recognition of Exemplary Administrative Leadership by Nigerian College of Accountancy, Jos, Plateau State.
  • Awarded Certificate of Excellence for Hajj related excellence performance as Borno State Amirul Hajj 2009 by the Federal Government.
  • Merit Award Plague for Political & Bureaucrat and Technocrat in Politics by the National Union of Borno State Students (NUBOS), 2010.
  •  Elected a Fellow of the Institute of Industrialists and Corporate Administrators in humble recognition of my proficiency in Corporate Administration – 13th March, 2010.
  • National Honours Award of the Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria – July, 2010.
