Arc. Ibrahim Bunu: Abusite Who Designed the Iconic NNPC Towers Abuja

Ibrahim Bunu is a renowned Nigerian architect and distinguished Abusite who served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic, holding office from May 1999 until February 2001 in the cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Ibrahim Bunu was born on 25 December 1950 in Ngala, Borno State. He started his educational pursuit at Wugo Junior/Dikwa Senior Primary School, from 1958-64. He proceeded to Government Secondary School, Maiduguri, graduating in 1971. He bagged a degree in architecture from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 1976.

Bunu began his career as a Trainee Architect with the Borno State Ministry of Works and Housing, Maiduguri from 1979-80. He became a Principal Partner, Shelter Associates in 1981. In 1982 he was appointed Minister of State, Housing and Environment.

Bunu designed the iconic Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Towers in Abuja which remain one of the architectural masterpieces in the Nigerian capital and the country at large.

He served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic, holding office from May 1999 until February 2001 in the cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo. He was replaced by Engineer Mohammed Abba Gana, also of Borno State, in a cabinet reshuffle in February 2001.

He was MLM Petroleum; International Engineering Consortium, and director of many other companies. He is a fellow Nigerian Institute of Architects. His hobbies include computers, reading, music.
