This was disclosed by the Chairman Chief Anibe Achimugu, who is also President of the National Cotton Association of Nigeria (NACOTAN), when he led the Foundation’s CTG Think Tank Team on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kabiru Bala, at the institution’s Main Campus, Zaria, yesterday.

Achimugu stated that the foundation whose choosen mandate is to evolve a CTG Think Tank, was established in memory of his father, the great Chief Paul Sunday Achimugu, who was widely regarded as a foremost textile guru in Nigeria.

In addition, the foundation will primarily focus on Health, Education and Empowerment.

He told the Vice-Chancellor that the foundation would also collaborate with the University to be organising a yearly lecture series for the benefit of the CTG sector and humanity.

Mr Achimugu explained that awarding scholarship to indigent students and offering prizes for best graduating students would also be part of the collaboration with the University.

This, according to him, was on the belief that the University could play the role of academia in the “Triple Helix model that has led to the sustainable socio-economic development of rapidly emerging economies.”

“We would want to take the advantage of the brains we have in Ahmadu Bello University; and we would write formally to the University for this purpose,” he said.

While thanking the University for the warm reception accorded him and members of his CTG Think Tank team, Achimugu said that the foundation and its team indeed cherished the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership qualities.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kabiru Bala, stressed the importance of research in the development of a nation, saying that no county could survive the 21st Century, if it didn’t plan well.

Prof Bala also explained that the University would do all it could to strengthen the collaboration with the foundation to achieve the set objectives.

The visit of the Think Tank members to the University and courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor were facilitated by the Head, Department of Polymer and Textile Engineering, Prof. M. M. Bukhari and Prof. A. Giwa of the department.
