The leadership of Ahmadu Bello University students’ representative council (ABUSRC) has express dissatisfaction with the condition of ABU hostels particularly the Danfodio and ICSA/Ramat halls.
The student leaders led by the ABUSRC President Comrade Abubakar Sadeeq Ali made their position known on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, after an in-depth inspection of the Danfodio, ICSA/RAMAT, Ribadu, Amina and Sulaiman Halls to access the condition of the facilities.
The ABUSRC team said, “During the visit, we were heartbroken seeing the condition of the hostels. A few among the eyesore in the hostels where the filthy toilets, Blocked drainages which make a suitable environment for parasite and insects like bed bugs and reptiles, No door locks, and generally poor condition.
“We so much believe that the partial renovation or repair of the hostels particularly the Danfodio and ICSA/Ramat halls would help in addressing accommodation challenges in the university, some of which were raised by the students in an online protest”.
The statement released by Comrade Khalifa Kabiru Andaza Secretary-General ABUSRC said, The ABUSRC president was convinced that the cooperation between the ABUSRC and the University management would proliferate the hostels issue.
“The inspection which is among the core concerns of the ABUSRC that student welfarism is well protected and that all efforts are coordinated before the school resumes normality”. He stated
Comrade Abubakar Sadeeq Ali acknowledged and appreciates the efforts of the University management in ensuring that Students enjoy a befitting accommodation by carrying out some repairs, he promised that ABUSRC will encourage and support them to do better.
