2022 can best be described as the year of broken records in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria as multiple academic records have been broken across several departments. Below is a list of the top four outstanding ABU students who broke notable Academic Records in 2022

Muminat Musa Agaka is a young ABU student in her early twenties who has broken a 38 years record in the Department of Sociology, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria by graduating as the best Student with a First Class (Honours) Degree for the 2020/2021 Academic Session.

Muminat who hails from Kwara State, North Central Nigeria is a definition of “Beauty and Brain” as her beautiful appearance did not deter her from achieving academic excellence in a Department that graduating with a First Class was almost becoming a thing of history.

Apart from her academic engagement, Muminat is a serial entrepreneur and also a creative artist who drew Hennah patterns as a side hustle.

The young woman who was raised by a single mother did not allow her family disposition, being an orphan to be a roadblock to her academic excellence but saw it as an opportunity to carve out a bright future for herself, her family, and Nigeria as a whole.

Her feat will surely serve as a motivation to other young women in institutions of higher learning to dedicate more time to their studies and to write their names in gold.

Well-wishers have since trooped to her timeline and different blogging sites all over Nigeria to extend their congratulatory messages and further pray for a good job and greater opportunities for her.

Zainab Bello Kofa graduated top of her class in the Department of Mathematics, ABU Zaria with a first-class degree accumulating a whopping 4.85CGPA! The best in the class of U16Maths ABU Zaria.

According to available records, she may not be the first female first-class graduate in the department as widely reported but her grades are the highest ever obtained by a woman in the department.

The case of Zainab Bello Kofa is more special because despite being a married woman with children, she did not allow her family disposition, being a wife to be a roadblock to her academic excellence but saw it as an opportunity to carve out a bright future for herself.

This genius is no stranger to awards as she has been the best student in her class ever since her nursery days. She also memorized the entire Quran from age 11.

3. Mufid Suleiman: Department of Agriculture, ABU Zaria

Mufid Suleiman is a student of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, who is believed to have set a new record for the institution by graduating with a final CGPA of 4.96 out of 5.00.

The graduate of Agricultural Science with registration number U16AG2026 shattered the previous record of 4.94 out of 5.0 held by Nuhu Ibrahim.

Mufid obtained a National Diploma in Agricultural Technology from the Division of Agricultural Colleges (SCA/DAC) Samaru, where he emerged as the Overall Best Graduand from the year 2005 – 2015 with a CGPA of 3.69 out of the total 4.00 CGPA.

He also received an Honorary Credential from the Embassy of China and Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, on 1st October 2017, due to his outstanding performance and overall CGPA of 5.00 as of then.

Mufid received an award as the Best Student in CPPR 301 (Plant Disease) in 2017/2018 from the Department of Crop Protection, ABU Zaria. Under the Prof. SALLY MILLER MENTORSHIP PROGRAM.

Mufid also received an award of excellence as a ‘First Class Student’ from the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Students (NASS), Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 2018.

Mufid Suleiman who is very religious, creative, and innovative yet very humble and easy-going has assisted many final year students in their research thesis, data analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of the result.

4. Atabor Hamza Adenoyi: Department of electronics and telecommunications engineering, ABU Zaria

Atabor Hamza Adenoyi from Kogi State has made history in the department of electronics and telecommunications engineering at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria when he bagged a first-class degree in style.

With a 4.83/5.00 CGPA, the young ABU student graduated with the best Undergraduate results from the Department since its establishment at ABU Zaria in 2013.

Celebrating his academic feat, Adenoyi appreciated God for achieving the best result in the department and expresses his wishes to undertake his master’s degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

He said, “At 17, I left the department of Biological sciences in my 2nd year to pursue a degree in engineering, after setting my mind straight to explore my hidden potentials. It wasn’t easy, to begin with, but the determination to keep going gave me the push I needed in those moments…

“If I were asked to define the entirety of my experience, I would say that I am focused on development, moving from where I am to where I want to be. After making efforts to acquire ICT-related skills (in programming), I was compelled to learn computer networking.

He was part of the contingent of Six students of Ahmadu Bello University who received the Vice Chancellor’s Award in 2021 for outstanding performance at the Huawei Nigeria ICT Competition.

The Competition, which was the fifth in the series, had a participation record of almost 15,000 students from over 2,000 colleges and universities in more than 82 countries and regions globally.

Atabor Hamza Adenoyi led the team the earned first prize in Network Track globally. Others include Emmanuel Abba and Hamza Beita. According to him, Spending time with his team strengthened his passion for learning and gave him more ideas to develop creative ways to teach people.

He expressed appreciation to the head of departmental, Dr. A. D. Usman, his lecturers, family, and friends for supporting him through this journey.
