ABU Governing Council approves Deputy Vice-Chancellors’ appointment

Ahmadu Bello University Governing Council has approved the appointment of the institution’s two Deputy Vice-Chancellors.

Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim is Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration; while Prof Danladi Amodu Ameh is to serve as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic.

The appointment of the two principal officers followed their election at the University’s 507th (Emergency) Senate Meeting held on Thursday, 17th June, 2021.

The appointment was contained in a letter to each of them by the Acting Registrar of the University Malam Alhassan Garba. It is for a period of two years, with effect from August 2.

Prof Ibrahim is coming for the first time as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration. And, Prof Ameh’s appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, is for a second and final term of two years.

Who is Prof Danladi Amodu Ameh?

Prof Danladi Amodu Ameh was born in Inye in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State. He is a Professor of Nutritional and Medical Chemistry.

He joined the services of the university in 1983 on the transfer of service from the National Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research (NITR), Vom, Jos, Plateau State, where he worked briefly as a research officer.

Prof. Ameh graduated with a BSc in Biochemistry with Second Class Upper Division from ABU in 1977; and in 1981 he got an MSc, also in Biochemistry from the same university.

He was at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, where he bagged a PhD in Biochemistry in 1991. Prof. Ameh, a Canadian Commonwealth Scholar, who held a number of administrative positions, including Head of Department, Biochemistry, ABU, has to his credit a total of 71 academic publications in journals, conference proceedings, books, and conference papers.

Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim is a distinguished Abusite and brilliant Professor of Quantity Surveying from Niger State, Nigeria.

He was born in 1974 at Doko town, where he attended North Primary School, Doko between 1979 and 1985, and from where he proceeded to Government Secondary School, Doko, and Ahmadu Bello University Demonstration Secondary School between 1985 to 1991.

He went on to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1991, where he bagged his B.Sc degree in Quantity Surveying in 1998, after which he joined the quantity surveying department of the university as an assistant lecturer in 2000.

Doko proceeded to King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia, in 2001, where he obtained his M.Sc degree in construction engineering and management in 2003. From there he went to Loughborough University, the United Kingdom in 2004, where he obtained his Ph.D degree in 2007.

Professor Doko served as head of the quantity surveying department of the university between 2008 to 2012. He was first appointed as the managing director of the main consultancy firm of the university (ABUCONS) in 2010.

The Senate of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in its 472nd meeting in 2015 approved his promotion of the Ahmad Ibrahim Doko, to the rank of Professor of Quantity Surveying at the age of 39yrs making him the youngest professor the school has ever seen.
