ABU appoints two new Directors for DAPM and Centre for Inland Basin Studies

The management of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has appointed Prof. Bello Mukhtar as the Director of, the Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring (DAPM) of the university.

Mukhtar, who until the appointment was the Deputy Director of, Quality Assurance Unit, DAPM, teaches at the Department of Chemical Engineering. He was at various times Ag. Dean, Deputy Dean, and Assistant Dean, Faculty of Engineering.

Prof. Mukhtar replaces Prof. Yahaya Makarfi Ibrahim, who was recently appointed Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Katsina State by the Federal Government.

Makarfi’s decision to leave for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, at a Management meeting last week, where members of the Management had bid farewell to the outgoing Director.

Similarly, Prof. Umaru Adamu Dambatta of the Department of Geology has been appointed Director of, the Centre for Inland Basin Studies, at Ahmadu Bello University.

Until his appointment, Prof. Dambatta was Deputy Director of, the Planning and Statistics Unit, Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring.

The two Directors, according to their appointment letters, would be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day operations of their respective offices.

The Vice-Chancellor enjoined the Directors to see themselves as “part and parcel of the University Management and be prepared to make sincere inputs so that peace and harmony reign in the University”.

Equally, Prof. Abdul’aziz Hassan of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences has been named Deputy Director, Planning and Statistics Unit, Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring.

Prof. Hassan’s appointment, according to his letter of appointment, was in recognition of his administrative and academic leadership qualities. And, he was implored to continue to render such contributions for the upliftment of the Directorate and the University in this capacity.

Hassan, who will be responsible to the Director for the day-to-day operations of the Directorate, was also urged to continue to render his contributions for the upliftment of the Directorate and the University as a whole.

All the appointments were approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, in a separate letter to each of them. They all took effect from 11th November 2022, and each of the appointees is to serve for two years.
