43RD ABU Convocation Ceremony To Hold Friday 26TH -Saturday 27TH January, 2024

This is to inform members of the University community that the 43rd Convocation Ceremony of Ahmadu Bello University will hold from 26-27 January, 2024.

Accordingly, the Pre-Convocation Lecture will take place at 4pm at Mamman Kontagora Square, Main Campus, ABU Zaria on Friday, 26″ January, 2024.

The lecture, entitled “This is your Time: Set Forth in Confidence and with Haste, is to be delivered by His Excellency, Donald Duke, CON, former Governor of Cross River State. Dr. Suleyman Ndanusa, OON, former Chairman/Director-General, Securities and Exchange Commission, will chair the occasion. Both Duke and Ndanusa are alumni of Ahmadu Bello University.

The award of Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, and Honorary Degrees will hold at 10:00am at Mamman Kontagora Square, Main Campus, ABU, Zaria on Saturday, 27 January, 2024.

The Visitor to Ahmadu Bello University, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will be the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion.

His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, will be the Chief Host, while His Highness, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, the Emir of Zazzau, will be the Royal Father of the Day.

To this end, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, invites all graduands, parents, guardians, and members of the public to the Convocation Ceremony.

Graduands are hereby enjoined to go to their respective faculties for collection of academic gowns which will begin on Monday, 22 January, 2024 at faculty offices.

CALL FOR PROPOSAL FOR THE AWARD OF HONORARY DEGREES FOOR THE 43RD CONVOCATION CEREMONY

Meanwhile, in accordance with the Provisions of Statute 11 (2), the Visitor, Chancellor. Pro-Chancellor, Officers of the University, Council and Senate Members are hereby invited to submit proposals if any, for the conferment of Honorary Degrees of Ahmadu Bello University to deserving persons.

All proposals received shall, in accordance with the Statute, be considered by the Honorary Degrees Committee tor recommendation to Senate and the Governing Council of the UniverSity.

In general, only persons of outstanding character and merit should be proposed for conterment of honorary degrees. They should be:

• Persons who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to learning in their field of specialization or community service.
• Persons who have made significant contribution to the nation in Public Service, Commerce, Business, Industry, Science and Technology; and
• Persons who have made significant contribution to the cultural life of the nation by their workin the various arts.

Other conditions include:
a. Post-hunmous nominations can be made only in exceptional circumstances and even then, normmally withina period or two years Since the demise or thne nominee.
b. No serving person in Political or Public office should be nominated.

Subject to the foregoing, the Visitor, Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, Officers of the University, Members of Council and Senate are requested to kindly submit any proposals they may have to the Registrar not later than Wednesday3 January 2024, under contidential cover.

In submitting a recommendation for the conferment of an Honorary Degree, justification must be offered in support. In addition, a detailed curriculum vitae of the candidate proposed should be attached, please.

NB: Only nominations from the above officers would be considered in accordance with the Statute.
